Awabi Shell Pen Blank - MOP - Emperor
This pen blank is made with Awabi Shell. Awabi shell is a different species of Abalone. It provides a mother of pearl look to it that is really beautiful. Awabi is also sometimes used to make buttons and jewelry because of its beautiful iridescence. The Awabi shell is cut into thin strips, then ever so delicately each strip is meticulously hand-applied onto the pen tube. It is then cast in clear polyester resin to enhance and protect its beauty.
This pen blank is made with beautiful Paua Abalone Shell. Paua Abalone shell is harvested and cleaned and the most beautiful part of the shell is used in jewelry and other applications that call for a stunning iridescent material. The Paua is cut into thin strips, then ever so delicately each strip is meticulously hand-applied onto the pen tube. It is then cast in clear polyester resin to enhance and protect its' beauty.
This blank comes tubed to fit the full-size Emperor, Oriental Dragon, and Great Palace Vine pen kits. (Pen Kits are available separately.)
As with all polyester resins, sharp tools are a must. Using a pen mill is NOT recommended. The blanks make beautiful pens and are for the more advanced turner. Turning experience is suggested. The blanks are returnable if they have not been machined in any way (including facing). Blanks will not be replaced or refunded due to blowouts
