Tube-in pen blanks have the brass tube already installed — the material is cast directly around the tube, eliminating one of the steps (and one of the failure modes) of pen turning. No drilling, no gluing, no risk of cracking the blank when you press the tube home. Just trim to length, mount on the lathe, and turn. Tube-in construction is also what makes most of our wildest blanks possible: watch parts, circuit boards, feathers, playing cards, paua shell, and other inclusions that wouldn't survive being drilled.
