Aspen Pen Blanks
Description
Aspen Pen Blanks
Aspen is a great alternative to holly for pen blanks as it has a creamy pale yellow to almost white color. It's easy to work with and glues up and finishes well.
The tree gets its nickname "quaking aspen" because its leaves tremble and quake even in a light breeze due to the long, flatted stalks (petioles) that attach the leaves to the branches. In 2014, "Quaking Aspen" was declared the state tree of Utah, replacing the Colorado Blue Spruce that had held the title since 1933.
The pen blanks measure 3/4" x 5".
- Common Name: Aspen, Quaking Aspen
- Scientific Name: Populus tremuloides
- Native Area: Canada and northern United States
- Hardwood, with a medium texture. Low natural luster. Easy to turn.
- Grain grain is usually straight.
- Color: Light brown heartwood, with pale yellow to nearly white sapwood, Not demarcated
- Makes an excellent wood for turning projects of all types
- Pen Blank measures approx.: 3/4" x 3/4" x 5"
- Non-Stabilized
- Priced: Per Each
