Kentucky Long Rifle Inlay Kit - Sierra
The Kentucky Long Rifle is known as the first truly American firearm. Graceful and slender, it was the rifle that the famous buckskin-dressed frontiersman Daniel Boone carried through the Cumberland Gap.
This is the rifle that not only helped tame the early American frontier, but it was also instrumental in the birthing of a great nation. Long to load, but undisputed for its accuracy, the Kentucky Long Rifle was put to good use during the French and Indian War. But it really came into its own as a sniper's rife during Revolutionary War. George Washington went out of his way and made a special effort to recruit over 1,700 sharpshooting frontiersmen with their Kentucky Rifles. And it was these hidden buckskin-dressed frontiersmen with their deadly accurate rifles which so surprised the British. Creating total confusion and breaking the Redcoat's ranks, helping to ensure the end of the offshore rule.
It was also the Kentucky Long Rifle that was specifically credited in securing General Andrew Jackson's stunning American victory in the battle of New Orleans in 1815 - in what became the final major battle in the War of 1812.
“From a flat bar of soft iron, hand-forged into a gun barrel; laboriously bored and rifled with crude tools; fitted with a stock hewn from a maple tree in the neighboring forest, and supplied with a lock hammered to shape on the anvil, an unknown smith, in a shop long since silent, fashioned a rifle which changed the whole course of world history, made possible the settlement of a continent, and ultimately Freed our country of foreign domination."
