Persimmon Pen Blanks
Persimmon is a member of the Ebony genus (Diospyros), and is sometimes called White Ebony.
Scientific name: Diospyros Virginiana, found in the Eastern United States. The wood is hard and dense, color will tend to darken with age. It is straight-grained, with a medium coarse texture. It turns easily but tools dull quickly. Because it is not widely available, it tends to be expensive for a domestic wood.
Has excellent shock and wear resistance making it very suitable for penmaking. It may experience significant movement, so finishing techniques should take this into consideration.
Blank is .8 x .8 x 5" or better.
