Poplar Pen Blanks

Poplar is one of the most common utility hardwoods in the United States. It's interesting to note that although it's commonly known as "Poplar," it technically belongs to the Liriodendron genus, which means "lily tree" in Latin. Another name you might hear for it is Tulip Poplar because its flowers resemble tulips.

When it comes to appearances, the heartwood of Poplar ranges from light cream to yellowish brown, with occasional streaks of gray or green. And here's a fun fact - some Poplar wood can even have mineral-stained colors like dark purple, red, green, or yellow, which people often call Rainbow Poplar.

The pen blanks measure 3/4" x 5".

  • Common Name: Poplar, Tulip Poplar, Yellow Poplar
  • Scientific Name: Liriodendron tulipifera
  • Native Area: Eastern United States
  • Hardwood, with a medium even texture and a low natural luster. Easy to turn.
  • Grain is typically straight.
  • Color: Light cream to yellowish brown, with occasional streaks of gray or green
  • Makes an excellent wood for turning projects of all types
  • Pen Blank measures approx.: 3/4" x 3/4" x 5"
  • Non-Stabilized
  • Priced: Per Each
