Red Mallee Burl Pen Blanks - 7/8"

Red Malle (Eucalyptus oleosa, E. socialis) is a species of Australian eucalyptus that is common in Australia. Red Mallee is prized for its heavy concentration of burl eyes and vivid color and figure. This burl features a  distinctive mix of pink, red, and violet heartwood with contrasting white sapwood. Mallees are usually smaller and shorter than trees, and grow multiple smaller-diameter stems from a common root system. Because of this, most mallee species are ill suited for lumber, though they do have a propensity for burl growths that can be harvested and used for turning pens, bowls and other small objects.

Pen Blanks come waxed and are non stabilized. As with all burls, there may be small voids. This can be filled with a mix of sawdust and epoxy, colored epoxy, or powdered gemstones found on the our site
