Red Mallee Burl Pen Blanks - pre-tubed for Sierra twist size

Red Malle (Eucalyptus oleosa, E. socialis) is a species of Australian eucalyptus that is common in Australia. Red Mallee is prized for its heavy concentration of burl eyes and vivid color and figure. This burl features a  distinctive mix of pink, red, and violet heartwood with contrasting white sapwood. Mallees are usually smaller and shorter than trees, and grow multiple smaller-diameter stems from a common root system. Because of this, most mallee species are ill suited for lumber, though they do have a propensity for burl growths that can be harvested and used for turning pens, bowls and other small objects.

Pen Blanks come pre-tubed, the size of a sierra twist pen. They are not stabilized Mallee is dense, does not need stabilizing. As with all burls, there may be small voids. This can be filled with a mix of sawdust and epoxy, colored epoxy, or powdered gemstones found on the our site
