Sycamore Pen Blanks

Sycamore pen planks are similar to maple as it is mostly made up of sapwood with some pieces also featuring darker heartwood streaks. However, it is not unusual to come across pieces that are entirely made up of heartwood. 

The sapwood of Sycamore wood is light-colored, ranging from white to tan, while the heartwood has a darker reddish-brown hue. This wood has unique ray flecks visible on quartersawn surfaces, which gives it a speckled appearance that even earns it the nickname "Lacewood."

The pen blanks measure 3/4" x 5".

  • Native Area: Eastern United States
  • Hardwood, with a fine even texture and a silky natural luster. Easy to turn.
  • Grain is typically straight has very distinct ray flecks on quarter sawn surfaces

  • Makes an excellent wood for turning projects of all types
