The Big Dipper (Alaskan Flag) Inlay Kit - Sierra
The Big Dipper (Alaskan Flag) Inlay Kit - Sierra Pen Kits
This cluster of stars has been recognized as an important and distinct group in many cultures from time immemorial. These stars often signify hope for a brighter future. The most visible part of the constellation of Ursa Major (the Bear), we know these stars as the Big Dipper. So named because slaves would be told to follow the drinking gourd (dipper) in their quest for freedom.
But these stars also go by many other names in other cultures. In Europe, they are known as the Plough (Ireland), the Clever (England), and the Saucepan (Dutch), while the rest of Europe often sees The Great Wagon or Seven Oxen encircling the pole star. In the Hindu religion, these stars are revered as "the Seven Stages," while the Bible just calls them "the seven stars." These stars even shine in famous literature and song. Homer's Iliad mentions them as the Bear, Tolkien the Sickle of the Valar, and T. A. Barron - The Wizard's Staff. But in each one of these, a recurring theme - a message of prosperity and of hope and for a brighter future.
